Position: Field Technician

JTN is a local ISP located in Farmington, Minnesota.  Technicians are responsible for installation and construction support work to facilitate broadband delivery to a wide variety of customers.  A field technician will find that no two work days are the same.  A typical day may include installing a new customer’s service in the morning, dropping off supplies for a contractor, taking lunch, troubleshooting a customer’s connection, working in the office on assigned tasks, and moving supplies around in preparation for the following day.  An ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • A positive attitude with a focus on completing work in a quality manner
  • Basic computer skills
  • A willingness to learn
  • Comfort working outdoors and at heights
  • Proficiency using basic power tools
  • Experience connecting/driving trailers and properly securing loads (No CDL required)
  • An emphasis on safe work practices
  • Completing work independently to JTN’s standards without direct supervision

Required Education

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Responsibilities

  • 40% Customer installations
  • 25% Service calls
  • 20% Construction support
  • 15% Logistics

Requirements

  • Clean driving record
  • No criminal record
  • Physical ability to lift 75 pounds
  • Ability to work in all-weather environments

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Tower climbing experience
  • Experience working with an ISP
  • Underground construction experience
  • Fiber optic OSP experience
  • Familiarity with Dakota County and surrounding rural areas

Schedule

  • 8 hour shift Monday-Friday with 1 hour lunch break
  • Paid, scheduled on-call weekends infrequently for emergency outage response
